Pumpkins head for Europe

Once again the Wild Pumpkins at Midnight are off to Europe, leaving Australian fans with a snatch of gigs and a new album. According to Dan Tuffy, singer, writer and bassist for the band, the Pumpkins feel lucky to be able to live the adventurous touring lifestyle that they do.

"I have no preference to Australia or Europe; I love them both. I would love to tour the US though. Every muso has hopes and aspirations of fame and fortune, but it's not a focal point for us."

The Pumpkins teamed up with old lead singer Deb Manskey for a couple of reunion gigs in Hobart. "We got the nostalgia out of the way in rehearsals and so were able to put on a really good show."

Their latest album, Low Fi Lucy's Mobile Temple, is different from previous releases, while still retaining the distinctive Pumpkins sound. It has a country feel about it and is also a bit calmer.

The album is dedicated to Michelle Turner, sister of Pumpkins guitarist, singer and writer Michael Turner and champion of the East Timorese. One of the more political songs on the album is the chilling tale of "Xavier", written by Michael and Michelle.

Dan says he's had a gutful of politics and that he just wants to play music. This is reflected on the album. Nonetheless, the Pumpkins always belt out a good tune and this is a fine album.
