Pictures of Cambodia

Horrendous stories of killings and hardship under Khmer Rouge oppression in Cambodia have shocked the world for two decades. Nevertheless, life goes on for the Cambodian people. Australians now have an opportunity to see the often overshadowed positive side of life in Cambodia.

Working with the Australian Volunteers Abroad (AVA) program, veterinarian Peter Frecklington became directly involved with the Cambodian people and was able to photograph their way of life.

He captured the simple beauty of Cambodia in a series of photographs which show insight into the lives of ordinary people, rich in culture and dedicated to rebuilding their future. The photographs give Australians a closer look at Cambodia from the streets and markets, from work to leisure, from farmers to crafts people and from artisans to dancers. The aim of the exhibition is to show the colourful, positive images of Cambodia.

The exhibition, entitled "And Life Goes On ...", is in the Sydney City Library Newspaper Room, Pitt St, City during normal library hours; admission is free. It is sponsored by the Overseas Service Bureau, which runs the AVA program sending skilled and professional Australians to work in developing countries.
