Tasmanian Forest Alliance formed
By Fiona Carnes
HOBART — More than 50 forest activists held a meeting here on March 21 to launch the campaign to save the remaining south-west Tasmanian wilderness from woodchipping.
Tasmanian Greens' parliamentarian Peg Putt and Geoff Law from the Wilderness Society (TWS) told the meeting about past campaigns to save the south-west wilderness and outlined possible threats to the unprotected areas, mainly made up of old-growth forest.
The meeting, attended by activists from the recent Save the Tarkine campaign, the Greens, TWS and Resistance, formed the Tasmanian Forest Alliance (TFA). Plans were made to start building the campaign with slide shows, education material, bus trips and rallies. It will focus on building community awareness in Hobart.
The TFA will meet every Monday at 7.15pm at Lucid Space, 61 Molle Street, Hobart. Phone (002) 34 9366 for more information.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
