Women's liberation conference
By Kerry Vernon BRISBANE — "Feminism in the '90s: beating back the backlash" and "Strategies for women's liberation" will be the main themes at a Women's Liberation Conference being organised by the Democratic Socialist Party on October 29. For some time the establishment media have been proclaiming the end of feminism: women have already achieved equality, they say, and the barriers to women's full participation in society are minor. This concerted campaign against women still struggling for their democratic rights, such as the right to choose and the right to a safe environment free from sexual violence, is aimed at undermining the gains of the women's movement. This anti-woman campaign is also peddling the myth that women are asking for too much. The conference will attempt to dispel some of these myths and give information about campaigns. Speakers at the conference include Unna Liddy from Children by Choice, Jenny Dunn from the Gold Coast Sexual Assault Centre, Anna Carroll from the Ipswich Women's Health Centre, Zanny Begg from Resistance and representatives from Community Aid Abroad and the Brisbane Rape and Incest Crisis Centre. For more information phone Anna or Kerry on 3254 0565.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
