Workers rush up and down the granite stairs of the house being built for President Yeltsin and his administration on Ulitsa Osennaya 4 ...

"I have not worked on such a chic house in the 30 years I have been in the business", said head engineer Vladimir Perevalov, who has built houses for Khrushchev and Brezhnev.

Yeltsin's 400 square metre apartment, which takes up half of the sixth floor, will have two bathrooms with giant baths, loggias decorated with stained oak and specially treated aluminium. Three gorgeous chandeliers are ready to be installed in the immense living room ...

In front of the house, a tennis court and a pond are taking shape ...

The first floor, with a bathhouse and a sauna, the basement and the attic, will be wholly occupied by Yeltsin's bodyguards.

Another 22 flats, being built for Yeltsin's aides with an average of 150 square metres, have two bathrooms each and built-in furniture.
