Rally: Protest against Philippines President Aquino.
The president of the Philippines, Benigno Aquino is visiting New Zealand and Australia to build stronger ties with the government and business community. Since Aquino’s presidency there have been 113 unionists and activists that have been extra judicially killed. On 17 October, a woman and her two sons aged 13 and 8 were gunned down in their hut. They’re a part of an indigenous tribe that is opposing their land being taken over by a big mining conglomerate. Aquino’s presidency, like those that came before his, has either supported or ignored massive human rights abuses, political extra judicial killings, and direct attacks against workers and workers organizing. 5:30pm. "Australia has the most restrictive media in the western world. Censorship by omission denies Australians their democratic right to make sense of whole stratas of political and foreign policy. That's why Green Left Weekly is a beacon, doing a job of honourable journalism, as an agent of people, not power."
