Mining & Democracy in Australia
Please feel welcome to come along to the next meeting of Illawarra Socialist Alliance to discuss the mining industry and democracy in Australia. There are growing campaigns across the country to halt the development of the mining boom, e.g. to stop coal seam gas development in the Illawarra, but little public discussion on the broader issue of who should decide where the industry is rolled out and how the wealth generated is allocated.
If you feel communities should be empowered to decide these things, as opposed to profit driven corporations such as Santos and AGL, please come along and join in the discussion.

"Australia has the most restrictive media in the western world. Censorship by omission denies Australians their democratic right to make sense of whole stratas of political and foreign policy. That's why Green Left Weekly is a beacon, doing a job of honourable journalism, as an agent of people, not power."
