2012 City of Sydney Peace Prize Lecture by Zimbabwean Senator Sekai Holland.
Holland is the co-Minister for Reconciliation Healing and Integration in the Cabinet of President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai. Holland has long shown her energy for championing human rights: during the 1960s and 70s, she was at the forefront of Australia’s Indigenous rights campaign and as such, is regarded as a cherished friend of Indigenous Australia and a respected activist by successive Australian governments. The Sydney Peace Prize citation reads: ‘Sekai Holland, for a lifetime of outstanding courage in campaigning for human rights and democracy, for challenging violence in all its forms and for giving such astute and brave leadership for the empowerment of women.’
