Socialist Alliance Eastern Suburbs Branch: Youth In Trouble - Student Struggle in 2012.
Guest Speaker – Patrick Harrison member of Education Action Group, Sydney Uni and Resistance Sydney. Across the world youth and students have once again been leading struggles for social change. Right here in Australia, we've had a year of struggles against neoliberal attacks on education, with major campaigns across several campuses mobilising students en masse to fight back. Looking at the state of student politics and the federal government, how much further will these struggles go? Cultural Item: Student Action For Aboriginals (SAFA) - In the 60's, a group of students at Sydney University (SAFA, led by Charlie Perkins, Ann Curthoys, Jim Spigelman, e.a.) organised the Australian Freedom Rides to expose racial discrimination in NSW. They were inspired by the Freedom Rides against racial segregation in the USA, held by Martin Luther King's 'warriors'. Kinetic Energy's co-directors Graham Jones & Jepke Goudsmit will lead a reading of some of the most poignant scenes from their play on this historic event. Free basic meal from 630pm. Call Haskell for the address or info. All welcome. Eastern Suburbs Branch of Socialist Alliance holds an open meeting on the last Wednesday of every month usually near to Bondi Junction.

"Australia has the most restrictive media in the western world. Censorship by omission denies Australians their democratic right to make sense of whole stratas of political and foreign policy. That's why Green Left Weekly is a beacon, doing a job of honourable journalism, as an agent of people, not power."
