Book launch: Rich Land, Wasteland.

Is our iconic Great Barrier Reef really at risk? Beautiful Keppel Bay and the Fitzroy River delta at the head of that bay, (the largest estuarine ecosystem feeding into the Great Barrier Reef), are threatened with massive coal port developments. Sharyn Munro's book exposes the real story of coal: how people are hurting, and rebelling, as coal pushes into hitherto unthinkable areas; how the true costs outweigh any benefits; and how all of us will ultimately pay the price. 12:15pm. St John’s Anglican Church Hall, 552 Burke Rd, Camberwell.

"Australia has the most restrictive media in the western world. Censorship by omission denies Australians their democratic right to make sense of whole stratas of political and foreign policy. That's why Green Left Weekly is a beacon, doing a job of honourable journalism, as an agent of people, not power."
