Exhibition: So Fukin Native.
Thursday, September 27-Saturday, October 13
Fetishised. Commercialised. Protected. Exploited. Representations of the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Ocean in academic and popular literature, print and online media and colloquial culture venues range from fond, romantic idealisations to barely concealed condescension. Eight cutting-edge Aboriginal and Pacific Islander artists explore the many layers of meaning in the term 'native' through performance and installation. Opening night: September 27, 6pm. Otherwise open 12-5pm. Blak Dot Gallery, 413 Lygon St, Brunswick East. Entry free.

"Australia has the most restrictive media in the western world. Censorship by omission denies Australians their democratic right to make sense of whole stratas of political and foreign policy. That's why Green Left Weekly is a beacon, doing a job of honourable journalism, as an agent of people, not power."
