"He could never shut up." — Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett, caught by TV cameras opposing the candidacy of former PM Malcolm Fraser for Liberal Party president.

Economic rationalism

Earlier this year Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett made a speech in which he gave this insight into his economic philosophy: "There is no such thing as equality. We live in a competitive world. If you try and make the fat man thin, the thin man ultimately dies. We have got to encourage the fat man to become fatter so that the thin man becomes fatter."

Bipartisanship

"... talk shows won't put us on together any more because we won't fight." — US Democrat Senator John "Jay" Rockefeller IV boasting his buddiness with Republican Senator John H. Chaffee.

Ectowhat?

"Skinny is their natural body shape — an ectomorphic body type that just happens to be in fashion." — Harpers Bazaar on why their use of super skinny models does not promote eating disorders.

Honest pollie

"I didn't know my voice was so recognisable. Unfortunately, I get carried away and couldn't help myself." — Tasmanian shadow attorney general John White, sprung for lambasting the state government on a talkshow while calling himself "Bill Fraser of Queenstown".
