Melbourne2.30pm : FRETECO - Factoru occupations and worker control
A new film on the Venezuelan Revolution. Produced by Vive TV in Venezuela, this new documentary on FRETECO explores the movement of occupied factories and workers’ control in Venezuela. Workers young and old, male and female, tell their stories and explain why they came to the realization that demanding nationalization under workers’ control is the only way forward.
With examples explaining how factory and workers’ councils function, the role of the communal councils, and the movement for “trade unionism of a new type,” this video provides a living, breathing look at a crucial aspect of the Venezuelan revolutionary process.
3.30pm : Listen to Venezuela
Listen To Venezuela takes the viewer into a contemporary revolution and extraordinary experiment in radical democracy and social justice. In Venezuela, ordinary people have rejected the savage neo-liberal capitalism that has been imposed the world over. In Venezuela, the once marginalised majority have become political actors in a story they have reclaimed from the Venezuelan oligarchy, western business interests and political domination from Washington.
Listen To Venezuela builds a multi-leveled, visually diverse account of the struggle for social change, a struggle to build a different kind of society where human needs, not profit, are prioritised; a struggle whose outcome has implications for everyone.
4.45pm : DOCUMENTING INDIGENOUS VENEZUELA - A WORLD OF SOUND
The AVSN presents a screening of short documentaries about living Indigenous language and culture in Venezuela.
Venezuela's revolution is creating a model of respect for Indigenous rights of land sovereignty, preservation of culture and language, and meaningful representation and participation in political life. They explore some of the changes that have occured under the Bolivarian revolution.
