The Sri Lankan government's genocide of the Tamil people and its detention of 300,000 people in concentration camps has provoked a mass refugee flight.
At least 3,700 Tamil refugees have fled from Sri Lanka to India this year (23,000 in last three years). Only a few hundred have braved the dangerous sea voyage to Australian territory but the Rudd Labor government is seeking to have them intercepted and taken to detention camps in Indonesia. The "Indonesian solution" is Rudd's alternative to Howard's failed "Pacific solution". And worse, Rudd Labor government has offered millions of dollars to run the concentration camps in Sri Lanka and promised to assist the Sri Lankan government hunt down Tamil freedom fighters allegedly helping the refugees flee.

Stand up for water, not coal! Support coal communities group Rivers SoS
About Rivers SoS' court challenge to the expansion of Metropolitan coal mine
In June, NSW Planning Minister Keneally approved a $50 million expansion of the Metropolitan Collieries under Part 3A, the first decision since a major government inquiry into the impact of coal mining on water in the Southern Coalfields. The approval allows for longwall mining to take place directly under the Woronora Dam, one of Sydney’s most reliable drinking water sources.
In what could be a landmark case, the Environmental Defenders Office is working with Rivers SOS to take the NSW Government to the Land and Environment Court to challenge the legality of the mining approval process.

Yes, it is a bl** dy long way to Nepean Hospital, particularly when you are sick or need to visit a loved one who has been transferred off Mountain for hospital services. In fact, it’s 53.1 kms from BMDAMH to Nepean Hospital via a highway that is both busy and a permanent construction zone.
Just think – Mountains residents who require dialysis, chemotherapy or general surgery are all required to travel to Nepean Hospital for services. And because of the unstable service provision at BMDAMH, Mountains residents are often transferred to Nepean to give birth, have a fracture attended to or to have emergency surgery.

Tell Kevin Rudd: don't dump on Indonesia. Australian carbon colonialism - stop the offsets! Kevin Rudd's Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme allows for 100% of Australian emissions reductions to be found offshore. Federal Treasury predicts at least 50% reliance on offshore credits to achieve the lowest reduction in emissions (5%). Kevin Rudd is now looking for cheap offshore offsets for Australian emissions. Indonesia is the first target, with the AusAid funded Kalimantan Forests and Climate project designed to establish reduced deforestation as an acceptable offset. Local groups in Indonesia, including WALHI, Indonesia’s largest environment organisation and the Indonesian Union of Small Farmers are opposed to Australia’s offset schemes and are protesting tomorrow at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta.

The Miscarriages of Justice Organisation (M.O.J.O) is a human rights organisation set up by Paddy Hill and John McManus who are dedicated to assisting innocent people both in prison and after their release. Their main objectives are to help counsel innocent people after they are released from prison and to gradually help them come to terms with the modern world.
M.O.J.O. is committed to the establishment of a Retreat to help depressurise victims and prepare them for their return to the society from which they should never have been taken. The Retreat will be unique project, using shared counselling experiences to help victims gradually come to terms with what has happened to them. All of them suffer from post traumatic stress disorders and are in desperate need of help. It is for this reason they are launching a new campaign to raise £500,000 to set up a M.O.J.O. Retreat.

2.30pm : FRETECO - Factoru occupations and worker control
A new film on the Venezuelan Revolution. Produced by Vive TV in Venezuela, this new documentary on FRETECO explores the movement of occupied factories and workers’ control in Venezuela. Workers young and old, male and female, tell their stories and explain why they came to the realization that demanding nationalization under workers’ control is the only way forward.
With examples explaining how factory and workers’ councils function, the role of the communal councils, and the movement for “trade unionism of a new type,” this video provides a living, breathing look at a crucial aspect of the Venezuelan revolutionary process.

Held in the Upper Florentine Valley, Tasmania.
Our climate team must convince world leaders to include the protection of the world's forests in the Copenhagen climate deal. You can help by joining us for a walk through Tasmania's carbon-dense forests.
The science is clear. We cannot secure a safe climate without protecting the world's forests and reducing emissions from deforestation and the logging and degradation of forests.
The event will include a number of speakers talking about the role that native forests play in storing carbon and regulating global climate systems; the latest science which outlines the severity of climate change; the need for just transitions for workers in carbon polluting industries; and the positive opportunities for expanding our renewable energy and low carbon industries.
Start: 12:00 pm
