Disability workers protest lack of resources

16 March 2005

HOBART — Disability workers stopped work for two hours to protest in Franklin Square on March 11 at the state government’s refusal to take action over the lack of resources and consequent excessive workloads for workers in the sector. Government representatives told unions to wait until the next state budget.

Tom Lynch from the Community and Public Sector Union told the Hobart Mercury that 10 out of 16 service coordinator positions in the south of Tasmania were unfilled and that “even with all 16 there aren’t enough to deal with the workload”. He pointed out that those who need housing “can’t wait for the budget”.
