Danish activists convicted for selling T-shirts

27 March 2009

Denmark’s supreme court found six activists guilty of financing terrorism on March 25. The activists had sold T-shirts bearing logos of two left-wing groups listed as terrorist organisations under EU law: the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

The six convicted are members of Fighters and Lovers (F+L) http://www.fightersandlovers.org. All received suspended prison sentences of up to six months according to the British Guardian. The activists have condemned the decision as an attack on civil liberties.

“The fundamental philosophy of F+L is that all human beings have the right to resist occupation forces and oppressive regimes”, a statement on the group’s website said. The group planned to donate five euros of every T-shirt sold to help fund a radio station in Colombia operated by FARC and a poster workshop in Palestine operated by PFLP.
