AUSTRALIA
Students organise against Israels war
Kerrie Smith, Sydney
18 January 2009
Activists from the National Union of Students, University of Western Sydney, University of NSW, University of Technology, Ultimo TAFE and University of Sydney have established a cross-campus collective to oppose Israels attack on Gaza.
The first meeting of the new Cross-Campus Gaza Defence Committee adopted a motion that: opposes Israels aggression towards the Palestinian people; calls for an Israeli ceasefire, immediately and unconditionally; calls for Israel to lift the blockade of Gazas borders and end the humanitarian crisis; condemns the Australian Labor government for supporting Israels war on Gaza; and offers its solidarity to those in Palestine suffering from Israels bombing, and to students in Australia affected by Israels war.
The committee is holding a mass shoe throwing at 12noon on January 21, near Fisher Library at Sydney University. Students are encouraged to join the email group by sending a blank email to: < cross-A HREF="mailto:campus_gaza_defence_committee-subscribe@yahoogroups.com"><campus_gaza_defence_committee-subscribe@yahoogroups.com>.
