FFANFF formed to protest against the granting of an exploration license for the Angela Pamela uranium prospect, 20 kilometres from the town centre. We are committed to ensuring a safe and sustainable future for our children and community, and oppose the exploration and drilling of uranium at the Angela deposit and the perpetuation of the nuclear fuel cycle around the world.

We do not want to be part of a “nuclear” family. How about a “solar” family, a community gathered under the sun, related to each other by the air we breathe, the ground we walk on and the precious artesian water that we rely on for our survival?

Many in Alice Springs are part of this family, and we are aiming to grow, to reach out to all of the people in this town who are sitting on the fence, unsure of what uranium mining means for them.

Recently we have focussed on family-friendly public events such as the “Solar not Nuclear” picnic day, the Ilparpa Swamp boat race and the “Pram Jam”, getting mothers onto the streets and into ministers’ offices to demonstrate their concerns.

We have also established an online networking site to keep our community connected. This has signed up 111 members in two weeks. Next year we are gearing up for a big campaign and will be kicking off a “Politics in the Playground” event to get some answers from our elected federal and Territory representatives.
