Rally opposes corporatised housing

On July 14, a rally against the corporatisation of Housing Tasmania was organised by the Tenants Union of Tasmania. Proposed changes will mean the state housing agency becomes a government-owned business, rather than a government service.
The Tenants Union pointed out that, under the plan, Housing Tasmania would be focussed on accounts rather than human need. A Tenants Union flier cites a similar change in New Zealand, which resulted in the prioritisation of financial gains over clients needs and an increase rent and housing density.
Currently 2700 people are on Housing Tasmanias waiting list.
