On August 4 residents of the West Bank town of Billin were joined by Israelis and members of the International Solidarity Movement to mourn the deaths of more than 1000 people killed in Gaza and Lebanon by the Israeli military. Protesters marched to the apartheid wall and attempted to cross the gate that separates villagers from their land. They bore Palestinian and Lebanese flags alongside black flags of mourning. The demonstrators were attacked by Israeli soldiers using sound grenades, rubber bullets, and tear gas. Two large brush fires were ignited by grenade-launched tear gas. When villagers and activists attempted to return to put the fire out, the army advanced and fired more tear gas and rubber bullets. Visit <http://palsolidarity.org> for more information.
