Geelong union solidarity meeting

17 November 1993

GEELONG — On May 9, 25 members of the Geelong Community and Union Solidarity Group (GCUSG) met to discuss the fight against the Howard government’s Work Choices laws.

Joan Doyle, Victorian branch secretary of the communications workers’ union, informed the meeting about the anger among her union’s members at rumours that the Geelong Mail Centre may be downgraded and Geelong mail sorted in Dandenong. She said this would mean not only a loss of service, “but also the loss of up to 20 full-time, casual and part-time jobs from the Geelong region ... It will mean replacing country jobs on union rates with casual labour, workers who are not even given a tea break.”

To join the GCUS, phone John on 0414 289 584.
