More terrorism laws in Victoria

26 April 2006

A bill will be debated in the Victorian parliament on May 2 that gives the state new “anti-terrorism” powers, reduces the scope of freedom of information and could exempt some documents from public release for longer than the current 30-year limit, according to the April 9 Melbourne Age.

Victorian Attorney-General Rob Hulls said the Terrorism (Community Protection) (Further Amendment) Bill “amends the Public Records Act to deal with security-sensitive documents held by the Public Records Office”. No details as to how 30-year-old documents could assist terrorists have been provided.
