Associated Press reported on March 29 that Venezuelas socialist president Hugo Chavez, long critical of big transnational companies, was promoting a free open-sourced software as an alternative to market-dominating Microsoft. AP reported that Venezuelas science and technology ministry recently held the Latin American Free Software Installation Fair, an event promoting the use of the open-source Linux operating system and other non-proprietary programs over Microsofts Windows.
