PERTH — A February 27 meeting of WA Civil Service Association delegates angrily rejected the state government’s response to the union’s pay claim and instructed their negotiating team to give the government 14 days to improve its position. Delegates made it clear that industrial action will be considered if they remain unsatisfied. Union surveys of its members show considerable rank-and-file support for taking a stand.

“The last three-year pay deal left us 0.65% behind [the consumer price index”, WorkCover WA delegate Barry Healy told Green Left Weekly. “Our claim is for a 5.95% increase in the first year and 5.3% each year after that, which will just help us catch up and then lift our salaries a little closer to the private sector.”
