Protests support Iranian bus drivers

17 November 1993

SYDNEY — On February 15, Iranian members of different left-wing groups in Sydney travelled to Canberra to join with representatives of trade unions to protest outside the Iranian embassy. The action was one of a series held around the world, called by the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions and the International Transport Workers Federation, to demand that Iranian authorities release from jail Tehran bus drivers’ union leader Mansour Osanlou and end all attacks on the union.

The protesters also opposed any military action by the US and other Western powers against Iran, arguing that progressive and democratic change in Iran is the task of the Iranian progressive movement.
