GLW: keeping idealism alive

24 August 2005

Green Left Weekly is a very important — I would say vital — Australian journal of independent opinion, and news that you won’t readily find elsewhere. I am always proud whenever anything that I write appears in its pages, because I know then that I am being read by idealistic Australians who can see beyond the footie, Australian Idol, and home improvements.

It is hard to keep your integrity and faith in the future in today’s Australia, when many of those who should be our intellectual elite have been corrupted by power, or being too close to power. The committed young team at Green Left are helping to keep the light on the hill alive for those many of us who still believe that a more decent Australian society can and will be achieved. Maybe not in my lifetime, but in yours — yes, it will be. Please continue to support Green Left Weekly.”

Tony Kevin, author of A Certain Maritime Incident: The Sinking of SIEV X
