HOBART — Twenty people held banners and placards and chanted “Medicare, not warfare!” and “Bring the troops home now!” alongside a major road on July 26. The protesters, organised by the socialist youth organisation Resistance, were expressing their opposition to the federal government’s decision to send more Australian troops to Afghanistan. The action drew many supportive honks from passing drivers.
