PALESTINE: Israelis shoot activist for 'warning'

27 July 2005

Israeli security forces threatened to put “a bullet in the head” of peaceful Palestinian, Israeli and international peace protesters in Asira village in the Occupied West Bank on July 23. According to a statement issued by the International Solidarity Movement, “without warning, an Israeli soldier [then] shot a young man in the hip to prove his point”. Israeli occupation forces had already detained and arrested 10 Israeli peace activists, and nine from around the world, before they could reach the protest against the illegal Aparheid wall. Foreign and Palestinian journalists were also denied entry to the area, along with ambulances and medical workers, by the Israeli occupation forces. The journalists had their cameras and films confiscated. In another anti-wall demonstration in Bi’lin village on the same day, the Israeli military attacked and fired teargas at peaceful demonstrators and detained 15 peace activists, arresting six of them.
