A clear majority of US voters (57%) do not believe that it was worthwhile going to war with Iraq, according to a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll taken on April 29-May 1. In a similar poll taken in February, 48% of respondents said it was worthwhile and 50% said it was not. Asked how they thought things were going for the US in Iraq, 56% of respondents said “badly” or “very badly”. Fifty-five per cent of those polled said they did not approve of US President George Bush's handling of the situation in Iraq. This was same figure recorded by an ABC News/Washington Post poll taken on April 21-24. According to that poll, 58% of voters thought the US was “bogged down” in Iraq, while only 39% thought the US was making progress. Sixty per cent were not confident Iraq would have a stable government in a year's time.
