MELBOURNE — Workers and their supporters are continuing to picket the ABM Plastics factory in Braeside. The picket, which began on January 21, is aimed at forcing the company's owner, Abe Waisman, to pay $2.5 million in entitlements such as long-service leave, redundancy pay and superannuation to the workers.

The company, which made plastic bags, is in receivership. The picket has prevented the removal of machinery and stock.

The workers were for a time subject to an injunction banning them from the picket line. Family members, workers from other factories and other supporters maintained the picket line during this period. The injunction has now been lifted.

The picketers have held three barbeques outside Waisman's Brighton mansion as a reminder of the money he owes them. Waisman is an owner or director of several other companies, and workers do not believe he is unable to pay.

They have also protested against GE Finance, which has appointed a receiver to run the company.

The picket line is at 56-62 Tarnard Drive, Braeside.
