On November 26, 10,000 Haitians marched in support of deposed President Jean-Paul Aristide. Aristide was ousted in a US-backed coup in February, and a new government installed. The protesters called for the establishment of a new government of national consensus that would include Aristides Lavalas party, and pave the way for Aristide to return. Warned by recent police violence against protesters, the march was short and stuck to the poor areas, where Aristides support is overwhelming.
