A group of filmmakers attending the Melbourne International Film Festival earlier this year found themselves lamenting the absence of Australian documentaries comparable with Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11. With the forthcoming federal election in mind, they decided to join forces to provide a focus for political debate about a government which has made dissent itself “un-Australian”.

Time to Go John is a compilation of l5 short films documenting pivotal moments in Australia's recent history — including the Iraq war, refugee detention centres, the GST, anti-terrorism laws and reconciliation. Made by some of Australia's best filmmakers and presented by comedian Rod Quantock, the film packs many punches to encourage voters to think carefully about their voting choices at the polling booth.

People are encouraged to organise screenings in the week starting September 29, and DVDs of the film can be ordered via the website for $20 (individuals) or $40 (organisations). See calendar listings for details of some screenings. Visit <http://www.timetogojohn.com>.
