Opera brings 1975 to life

MELBOURNE — The Melbourne Workers Theatre and the Canto Coro choir present 1975 — A Populist Opera. Irene Vela's work explores the tumultuous events in Australia's political history that took place in that year, including the sacking of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam's Labor government and the Indonesian invasion of East Timor. History is brought to life in song, text, music and drama. 1975 runs from May 21 to June 7, at the North Melbourne Town Hall. Tickets are $25 ($20 for trade union members) and $15 concession.
