Hunger striker in Burnie

2 April 2003

BY KAMALA EMANUEL

BURNIE — Matt Hardy began a week-long hunger strike on March 26, to protest the war, and call for Australian troops to be brought home. Hardy say’s he’s on hunger strike because it’s a way to protest that’s “in people’s faces”.

On the first day of the strike, 250 people signed his petition calling for PM John Howard to face the people, and the troops to come home. As well as much support, Hardy has suffered some verbal abuse. He would welcome visitors at the K-Mart Plaza on Mount Street, where he is protesting. Messages of support can be sent to Matt at <kaboomcha_86@hotmail.com>.
