A rock band with a conscience10 July 2002
Queensland band Future Native is flying high after the successful launch
of its debut single “Your Backyard”. A rousing rendition of its reconciliation
song “Kakadu” is also included.
The purpose of “Your Backyard”, says Future Native's singer/songwriter PJ Creamer, is “to open people's eyes to what is really happening out there. The government is trying to push through legislation that will see civil liberties infringed in the name of the `war on terrorism' and at the same time continuing with a program that is seeing our environment destroyed. `Your Backyard' is a wake-up call to Australians to look at what the government is doing and take an interest. The decisions they are making affect us all.” Future Native describes itself as “a rock band with a conscience”. The band's messages in favour of environmentalism and peace will be highlighted on its debut album Rusty Rocks, which will be in stores in July. The band will launch their album in a series of performances: July 10 at the Corner Hotel, Melbourne (with Serpentine); July 11 at the Empress Hotel, Fitzroy; and July 12 at the Barwon Club, Geelong. “Your Backyard” can be downloaded at <http://www.mp3.com.au/futurenative>.
