SYDNEY — “From the Sierra Maestra mountains to the Blue Mountains” was the theme of the inaugural Green Left Weekly solidarity dinner in the Blue Mountains, held at the Mid-Mountains Community Centre on July 28.

Ricardo Andino sang appropriately inspiring Latin American songs to 60 dinner-goers, while speakers toasted the revolutionary July 26 Movement which launched the Cuban revolution.

Lisa Macdonald from the Socialist Alliance spoke of the growing left alternative, noting the recent formation of a local branch of the alliance in Katoomba.

Supporters of the revolutionary press helped raise over $700 for Green Left Weekly and heartily applauded when left-wing folk singer Andy Gianniotis sang that the “the Blue Mountains are slowly turning red” while entertaining during dessert.
