School teachers demonstrate in Surabaya

On November 29, 60 private school teachers from the Private School Teachers Communication Forum (FKGS) demonstrated at the Surabaya legislative council for improved legal rights and wages.

FKGS leader Yudin Bayo told Detik that they took the action because many teachers at private schools have been fired arbitrarily and there are many outstanding pay disputes.

North Sumatran workers rally

Some 500 workers and activists staged a rally at the North Sumatra governor's office on November 23 to demand an increase in the regional minimum wage. They also demanded that the government board that determines wage levels be disbanded.

The action was supported by the All Indonesian Prosperity Union, the Sumatra Labour Union, the Indonesian Independent Labour Union and the Independent Plantation Labourers' Association.
