ADELAIDE — The trials of refugees charged with involvement in August's protest at the Woomera detention camp will begin on December 18, and continue daily through January. The charged refugees are being held in the Adelaide Remand Centre.

The Resistance and Democratic Socialist Party branches in Adelaide have called for protests to be held at the trials of the refugees.

“DIMA's determination to silence voices of protest is a cruel and absolutely outrageous reflection of the inhumanity of the federal government and the like-minded Labor opposition”, Adelaide Resistance organiser Sam King told Green Left Weekly. “The refugees are on trial because the Australian government wants to intimidate into silence any voices raised against its inhumane policies. This makes these refugees political prisoners and it is our duty to speak out against this injustice”, King said.
