Cuba condemns Israeli attacks

11 October 2000

HAVANA — In contrast to almost all other governments in the world, including Australia and United States, the Cuban government condemned on October 3 the “barbaric acts” of Israeli troops against Palestinian protesters in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Cuba “demands an immediate cessation of the brutal and criminal actions” by Israeli troops that “could lead to a dangerous escalation of violence and unforeseen regional and global consequences”, Cuba's Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Cuba placed the blame for the confrontations squarely on the Israeli government and condemned the United States administration for “unconditionally supporting” Israel.

“Once again, Cuba reaffirms its total and unconditional solidarity with the Palestinian people in their legitimate fight for the establishment of an independent and sovereign state and the return of all occupied Arab territories”, the statement concluded.
