Cuba solidarity conference

13 September 2000

More than 4000 people from around the world are expected to attend the Second World Meeting of Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba to be held in Havana, November 9-14. The five-day conference has been organised by the Cuban government to bring together opponents of the three-decade-long US economic blockade against Cuba.

“This will be an important gathering for all those people and organisations who reject the arrogant attempt by the United States government to crush the national sovereignty of Cuba”, Pat Brewer told Green Left Weekly. Brewer will be heading the Democratic Socialist Party's five-person delegation to the solidarity conference.

“The DSP considers attendance at this conference to be a concrete expression of our solidarity with revolutionary Cuba”, said Brewer. “We hope that the conference will give further impetus to the international campaign to force the US authorities to end their trade embargo against Cuba, an embargo that has been repeatedly condemned by the great majority of the world's countries.”

For more information about the solidarity conference, contact the DSP office in Sydney at (02) 9690 1230 or email <dsp@dsp.org.au>.
