Students serve log of claims

BY ADAM BAKER AND KATE STEWART

BRISBANE -- Griffith University students, incensed at deteriorating campus conditions, have served a log of claims on their university administration.

The students marched through the campus on April 12, visiting various student common rooms to enlist support before marching on the administration building. Students gave management until May 2 for a response; the vice-chancellor and senior management were all absent from campus on the day of the action.

The log of claims was the result of several months of surveying students by the Student Representative Council. Students responded well to the surveys and seventy students attended the first general meeting to discuss campus conditions.

The log of claims runs to 58 demands, covering such areas as women's issues, security problems, queer concerns, student fees and charges, transport and parking, tutorials and lectures, library services, campus services and facilities, academic and general staff issues, computer facilities and services, and environmental and ethical concerns.

Students are planning further action if the response to their demands is inadequate and will seek to draw many of their classmates into the campaign.
