Cartoons from out of Leftfield, and on the web

By Rani Singh

More than 2000 people have already visited a new web site which features political cartoons by Arun Pradhan. The cartoons include the fortnightly feature in Green Left Weekly, “From out of Leftfield”, which tackles Australian politics and current affairs.

Subjects to come into the firing line include anti-asylum seeker hype (keep an eye out for the movie spoof, “attack of the killer boat people”) right through to the GST.

Other sections of the site showcase past strips such as Rebel Sheep (previously a feature of the Resistance magazine) and the not quite so political, everchanging moods of Gilbert the Duck. The “other bits” section contains more generic cartoons, and finally a quotes section has a range of inspirational, humorous and political quotes from Che Guevara to Woody Allen.

Although drawn primarily for Green Left Weekly, the cartoons are available for reproduction for non-profit use and, thanks to the web site, have already attracted interest from a union journal in London right through to an anti-racist network in Canada.

People can view the site at <http://www.shortfuze.com.au/leftfield>. Visitors are also encouraged to send feedback and ideas to Arun at <arun_lf@hotmail.com>.
