RESISTANCE!
Brighton High film screening

18 August 1999

By Tristan Miller

ADELAIDE -- On August 4, the Resistance club at Brighton High School held a lunchtime screening of David Bradbury's film Jabiluka. The screening was highly successful, with more than 20 people attending. This included three teachers who were there out of interest, not to supervise or harass!

Brighton High Resistance activist Leo Auri spoke before the film and stressed the importance of getting involved in campaigns against injustices rather than just being shocked and horrified by them.

Members of the audience had a lively discussion after the film about how indigenous people were having their rights attacked by the government and mining companies.

Donations were collected which will be used by the club to print posters and leaflets for the next video screening, a documentary on the Indonesian democracy movement, Democracy or Death.

The Resistance club has been operating on Brighton High since last September, and has played an important role in building rallies and other Resistance events. The club has planned video screenings for the rest of the year.
