Mindanao: the Call to Arms -- Mindanao has experienced a bloody war that has killed 50,000 and displaced more than a million. The people of Mindanao are struggling for the right of national self-determination from the government of the Philippines. This program, part of the Compass series on religion, takes a hostile, anti-Muslim approach. ABC-TV, Sunday, July 4, 10.15pm.

Being There: Antarctica -- An examination of the importance of the frozen continent through the use of wildlife and landscape photography and the writings of early explorers. ABC-TV, Monday, July 5, 2am.

For the Eyes of Mariana -- The story of Mariana Zaffaroni, who was “given” to a member of the Argentinean secret service, the organisation that was responsible for killing her parents in a 1976 coup. Zaffaroni is one of an estimated 300 children whose parents were murdered by the military and subsequently “adopted” by members of the military or their civil service accomplices. SBS, Tuesday, July 6, 8.30pm.

People's Century: Half the People -- Part of the BBC series. Its poor political analysis is made up for by excellent footage of world events. This episode concentrates on the rise of the women's liberation movement in the 1960s and 1970s. ABC-TV, Tuesday, July 6, 11.05pm.
