GLW library appeals for books

By Dave Holmes

SYDNEY -- Ready access to the right materials is crucial for a cooperative venture like Green Left Weekly, no less than for the big capitalist dailies. And for all the increasing importance of the internet, newspapers, magazines and books continue to play a crucial role here. The hardworking GLW volunteers now have a new resource to help them in their work.

A library of books, pamphlets and left magazines is being established at Green Left's offices in the Resistance Centre building in Chippendale. This is in addition to GLW's existing collection of newspapers and periodicals. The new resource will be shared with the national offices of Resistance and the Democratic Socialist Party.

While only a modest beginning, the library will be an important step forward. It aims to establish solid collections in such areas as the Marxist classics, Australian labour history and politics, women's liberation, Third World liberation struggles, ecology, standard reference works and so on.

While some categories are reasonably well stocked, others are still rather lean. We hope Green Left Weekly's dedicated readers and supporters will consider donating reading materials to help make the library project a success.

If you have something which you think would be useful, please contact us. Inquiries should be directed to Dave Holmes on (02) 9690 1230.
