Election of One Nation senator condemned

BRISBANE -- The Democratic Socialist Party organised a speak-out of 50 people in the Queen Street Mall on October 9 to protest the election of One Nation member Heather Hill to the Senate on October 3.

Local Aboriginal busker, Adrian Macavoy, told the crowd about the importance of workers helping the Aboriginal people to fight racism. “Why are your children marching on the streets protesting racism?” he asked. It is because “they see they have no future unless they make it themselves”.

Jabiluka Action Group member Meryam Tozer condemned the construction of the Jabiluka uranium mine and the racist intimidation that was used to get the go-ahead for the mine. Democratic Socialist speaker Nick Everett made the links between the rise of racism and more than a decade of attacks on the rights and living standards of working people.
