Special appeal

By Max Lane

Suharto and his cronies have the IMF and the World Bank to bail them out of the present crisis, but the Indonesian opposition, especially the underground movement based among the workers and urban poor, don't have the same benefactors. They urgently need help.

The opposition movement has also been hit by the massive inflation, including in the price of paper used for leaflets and newsletters. Rent for safe houses, electricity, public transport, motorcycle fuel, food and the cost of running a political movement have all skyrocketed.

Disaster faces the Indonesian people when the full brunt of the IMF austerity measures hits on April 1. The pressure on those organising people to resist will increase. You can help them now.

Action in Solidarity with Indonesia and East Timor (ASIET) is launching a special appeal -- the Indonesian People's Power Fighting Fund. Donations will be channelled to the Indonesian People's Democratic Party (PRD), the Indonesian Centre for Labour Struggles (PPBI) and Students in Solidarity with Democracy in Indonesia (SMID).

Please send donations to ASIET, PO Box 458, Broadway NSW 2007.
