Poem: Stoking the Flame

28 January 1998

Stoking the Flame

The Light on the Hill
may flicker and dim,
at times -- the bad times,
it may fail to illuminate
the road ahead.
It is then that we must
cup our hands around it,
protect and nurture it,
feed its sacred flame,
revive its scarlet heart.
It is when its brightness dims
that it has most in reserve,
not moribund
but resting.
Gathering force.
Trust in that light,
believe in its power.
Allow it to light the way,
draw strength from its energy.
It is our Light and our Hill.
