Peter Hicks at the Three Weeds

Peter Hicks at the Three Weeds

SYDNEY -- At the launch of his latest CD, The Bottom Line, at the Three Weeds in Rozelle on October 18, singer Peter Hicks proved why he is one of Australia's most popular folk artists. With songs such as “The Man with the Pink Triangle”, “Mr Landlord” and “Her Bloody Family” (a hilarious take-off of the English royal family), Hicks tantalised the audience with his strong singing and fantastic guitar and bouzouki playing.

Hicks' songs (written with lyricist Geoff Francis) are political in a way that isn't patronising or corny (no Bob Denver covers on this night), but instead reach to the heart of everyday things and, when performed live, are a real treat. New life is injected into Sydney's folk tradition with the release of this CD -- and that's the bottom line. -- Cameron Parker
