Rage Against Racism

By Cassandra Pomroy

SYDNEY -- Following the huge success of the Rock Against Racism at the Harbourside Brasserie here, Resistance is now organising a Rage Against Racism.

Several young bands will be performing between 11am and 6pm at the amphitheatre in Parramatta Park on October 11. The bands donating their time and talents include Meanderthal, Gilgamesh, Meaneather, Poinaz Dare (formally Tinderbox), Flyspeak, Skulker, Grimace, Lalotoa, Cult 45, Dog Boy and Lentil Soup. There will also be food and market stalls.

Entry will be by donation and the funds raised will go to Resistance's anti-racism campaign activities, including the national youth and student Fight Racism conference on September 27-28, an anti-racist newsletter for high school students, and to Green Left Weekly.

The event lets young bands show their opposition to racism and provides an opportunity for young people from the inner-city and western suburbs to come together for a day of politics and music.

Belinda Selke, one of the organisers, told Green Left, “Part of Resistance's work is to politicise young people. Music is a powerful medium to get the message across. There are many bands out there who've said they're happy to participate in this event and future anti-racism activities.”

The Rage Against Racism is jointly organised by Resistance, the University of Western Sydney Nepean Student Union, Cultural Dissent and the Parramatta Park Trust. To get involved, telephone Cassandra at Resistance on 9690 1977.
